The detentions staff consists of 11 officers at this time, with more expected to come on board in the near future. The year 2003 saw the completion of a new jail complex that has been a long time in the making. This facility has the capacity to house 50 prisoners and the capability to expand to hold 50 more if and when that becomes necessary. This new state of the art facility was designed with the safety and security of both prisoners and staff in mind.

There are active work-release and home detention programs for minor offenders when the courts deem it appropriate. Persons convicted of crimes such as D.U.I and Domestic Violence receive classes as part of their sentence. Emphasis is placed on education and rehabilitation instead of punishment alone.

The Detentions Unit consists of a Captain, two Sergeants, two Corporals, and certified officers as well as civilian personnel. There is one full time cook, one part time cook, and a certified reserve officer that is permanently assigned to court room security. Additionally there are reserve detention officers who help out on a volunteer basis.
